Passengers with one of the following residency documents issued by Canada do not need a visa: - a permanent resident card; or - a permanent resident travel document counterfoil; or - a temporary resident permit counterfoil; or - a confirmation of permanent residence (CoPR).
Passengers with a Permit to Re-Enter (Form I-327) issued by the USA do not need a visa for a maximum of 6 months.
Residents of the USA do not need a visa for a maximum of 6 months if they have: - a Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551) issued by the USA; or - a machine-readable visa issued by the USA with notation 'Upon Endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year' and a U.S. Custom and Border Protection admission stamp; or - an I-551 stamp (also known as an Alien Documentation, Identification and Telecommunication (ADIT) stamp); or - a Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551) issued by the USA without an expiration date; or - an expired Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551) issued by the USA with Form I-797 (Notice of Action) for pending Form I-751 (Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence) or with Form I-829 (Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status); or - an expired Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551) issued by the USA with Form I-797 (Notice of Action) for pending Form I-90 (Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card(Green Card)); or - a Form I-94 issued by the USA with an unexpired temporary I-551 stamp (ADIT stamp) and a passport photo.
Passengers with a Certificate of Indian Status card issued by Indigenous Services Canada do not need a visa.
Passengers with a multiple-entry visa are allowed to return to Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon if they are returning within the initial period authorized by a CBSA officer on their initial entry to Canada. They must have not left the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon to a third country. Passengers with a single-entry visa are allowed to return to Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon without obtaining a new visa. They must be returning within the period of entry authorized or within 6 months of the original entry stamp and must not have left the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon to a third country.
A visa in an expired travel document is accepted if the passenger has a new travel document issued by the same country.

Visitors traveling for business are recommended to have documents such as a letter of invitation from the Canadian host business, a supporting letter from the employer, copy of bills or contracts supporting the visit, and contact details of the host business in Canada to facilitate entry procedures.
