Permanent residents of Australia with an "Authority to Return" (ATR) or a "Return Endorsement" (RE) may have their visa status recorded in Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) systems as a BF-111 linked to the current passport. An ATR or RE wet stamp in an expired or cancelled passport or another travel document is also acceptable if the passenger has a valid passport, and provided the passenger is returning to Australia within 3 years of their most recent departure. ATR and RE holders without a BF-111 linked to their current passport are encouraged to request this to be electronically recorded in Home Affairs systems to avoid delays when traveling.
Valid visas in expired passports are accepted if the passenger also has a new passport. Change in passport details can be updated at https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/change-in-situation/passport-details .
